Is it legal to play poker online in Nebraska?

Posted under News on March 29th, 2009

Gaming always has hard core detractors in every state in the United States, Nebraska is no exception. Gaming, whether online or land based is always been popular. Back in the 1850s to 1930s, gambling in Nebraska was accepted either openly or in closed quarters.

But due to the laws that are imposed, gambling in Nebraska is limited to only keno, slot machines and licensed wagering on horse races. Land based casinos and gambling by telephone or over the internet is a violation of state and federal law in Nebraska. Most gamers drive across the Missouri River to Council Bluffs, Iowa, where casinos are legal and they are free to gamble.

Back in 2004, state senator, Ernie Chambers and U.S Representative Tom Osborne tried to push for legalized gambling in Nebraska, allowing casinos and slot machines to be built. But so far it had meet many opposition and casinos still remain illegal.
