Poker Pravila
I know this bunch of guys, about 7 or 8 of them, all of them lifelong friends. They have (unofficial) a poker club, and they call themselves the Pravila Boys, sometimes the Pravila Club. Since there is nobody in the group that I consider as a very close friend, I never asked what Pravila is. Hey, it's a live and let live generation, the word could be a curse for all I knew.
The funny thing about these guys, they go out of their way to irritate opponents (at the poker tables), to anger the dealers, and to be obnoxious- short of engaging in fistfights. (Just to throw it in, 1 of them is a very good card counter, but he only does his counting schemes outside the country).

Well, I will give you the standard, MAINSTREAM etiquette bits for poker play, those that you are doing (I hope), and right after each, the Poker Pravila version (meaning, what they advocate and preach and practice).
Poker Etiquette: avoid playing slowly, this would be a turn off to many players.
Poker Pravila: Turn them off as often as possible. Fact is, the standard line of Madd (one of them) is 'Hey, ease up on me, I'm a newbie'- which he is anything but. He has been playing poker already when Hulk Hogan and Andre the Giant were still the Kings of Wrestling.
Poker Etiquette: the table is not a place for personal hygiene, meaning, do not do your nails during the game.
Poker Pravila: save time, why use up precious minutes shaving in the morning when you can do it while waiting for your turn?
Poker Etiquette: DO NOT SPILL your drinks on the table.
Poker Pravila: 'Why should we care- is a frequent line of these boys. They say that if they are so very clean and conscientious, and if all gamblers in the House would be so clean and conscientious, then the maintenance cleaning guys would not have anything to do. We are actually making sure he keeps the job> their line.

To the newbies: put your wager on the smallest denomination unit until you've accumulated enough experience.
There is usually no time constraints in here, avoid rushing. Another thing, many gamblers do not realize that the Ace is not the most significant holding in the deck, it is the Jack. Maintaining the J over aces would give you many chances to make strong hands.
The Video Poker Edge- How to Play Smart and Bet Right<?>- remember this, it is not advised to draw to inside straights, still, assuming you have that open-ended straight, then you might as well go for it.
As often as possible, keep the pair instead of the high card. So many gamblers would let go of the pair of 2s, keeping one high card, but the stronger technique is to go for a three-of-a-kind.
So there, playing smart, betting right, maintaining the positive mindset, have all these and you would be a very good video poker gambler.

An Education : Lucky Mad Player (Poker)
Let me establish these things, when I say "education", I am referring to whatever moral lesson you could get from this little tale. If you could not get any, what the hell, it would be fun.
His name is Olin, mid-30s, and before he quit his work to concentrate on full-time gambling, he used to be an insurance policy salesman. So, let me start my An Education : Lucky Mad Player (Poker) story.

His name is Olin, mid-30s, and before he quit his work to concentrate on full-time gambling, he used to be an insurance policy salesman. So, let me start my An Education : Lucky Mad Player (Poker) story.
Well, Olin is one of the maddest (read: crazy in a not-destructive but funny way) poker players I've ever met, one of the luckiest too. Example of his madness (just one among a thousand acts)- years ago, he and I were in the same poker game, and there was a drop-dead gorgeous blonde who obviously had the hots for Olin. In a crucial part of the game where 3/4 of Olin's bankroll was on the line, he was one-on-one against this lady. The blonde was thinking whether to call or to fold, and Olin blurted out, "if you fold, I'll take you to dinner in the most expensive restaurant you could think of". The lady looked at us (the rest of the guys) and asked us if Olin's word could be trusted, nobody spoke. Out of friendship, I muttered, "If you confiscate his car keys right now, he could be trusted"- laughter all around, and in fairness, Olin laughed too.
Well, the blonde did ask for the keys, Olin threw the keys on the table, the lady folded, and they went out to dinner. (But not before getting a 1 grand loan from me, oh well).
Here is the lucky part of this An Education : Lucky Mad Player (Poker) narration, he really is blessed with getting lucky in the critical times. One time at a tournament (NOT WSOP), he was down to just 3 measly chips when he made a comeback worthy of the books. He fought on as though his life depended on making it to the money bracket, and he made one cute bluff after another. At the Finals table, there were just 3 of them remaining, and one of the 2 opponents was very sure he was bluffing again. Only that time, Olin had a monster hand and won that particular pot. Still, he landed 2nd, the chip leader was a fire-breathing 200-year old veteran who probably taught Stu Ungar decades ago.
Last time I saw Olin was about 3 months ago, and he told me that the 2 of us should hang out at our old casino, for old times' sake. I'd prefer an expensive dinner, his tab of course. An Education : Lucky Mad Player (Poker)...he has a 6-year old son, I hope the education would be there for the kid, with the luck, MINUS all the madness of the father (but that is wishful thinking I guess).

Poker Game Bet Your Wives Clothes Off
My brother is an aspiring writer, and pretty soon, that "aspiring" would be replaced by an "accomplished newbie". (His first novel would come out about 3 or 4 months from now, I'm looking forward to the treat-dinner for the family).
My brother is an aspiring writer, and pretty soon, that "aspiring" would be replaced by an "accomplished newbie". (His first novel would come out about 3 or 4 months from now, I'm looking forward to the treat-dinner for the family).
Well, there was one time (he was abroad then) when he asked me to look for something in his locker, and in the process of doing so, I found some of his very first short stories when he was just a high school student, and since I was sure he would not mind, I read some of them. One story (actually not a short story, but not a novel) was entitled "Poker Game Bet Your Wives Clothes Off", and it was a cute story.
The title (for an inexplicable reason) had to do with a story on poker, but the wives there did not actually take their clothes off. Allow me to give you a synopsis on this Poker Game Bet Your Wives Clothes Off story. (Don't raise your hopes high, it's a super-capsulized version OK?)
The four main characters in the story were Alvin, Bethie, Daniel and Eva. Alvin and Eva were the best of friends way back in college, while at the same time, Daniel and Bethie were the best buddies. All of them studied in the same university, and all four of them were friends. Fast forward, Alvin and Bethie ended up marrying each other, while Daniel and Eva became a couple too.
One momentous night, the four of them took a short holiday in the South of France, and they played poker, a different kind of strip poker. There were no stripping, but you would be amused at the stakes- the wives- that is- Bethie and Eva. The game was down to a head-to-head between the two guys, and Alvin was ahead in the game. To make the things interesting, Alvin said that if Daniel beat him, he would allow an exchange of wives. NO sex actually, but just companionship- Eva would stay Alvin for a month, while Bethie would stay with Daniel for the same amount of time. Daniel thought it was a grand idea, and proceeded on making a rally. End result: Daniel beat the other guy, and the exchange of wives transpired.
Fast forward, after that long month- Alvin realized he loved Eva more than his wife, while Daniel realized he loved Bethie more than Eva. A simultaneous filing for divorce happened, and 2 years since the poker game, the exchange of wives became final and official.
Well, nothing dramatic about the Poker Game Bet Your Wives Clothes Off's plot, but it makes us think of the Great Quirks of Life, huh?
I told my brother he should have it published, 'no'- he said, it's a much better story being told verbally at the Poker Home games- HOPEFULLY without wives in attendance.

Affiliate Internet Poker Program
Question: how do online gambling sites entice folks to register with them? Answer: half a dozen ways, but one of the principal methods is by linking up with the affiliate Internet poker program. These affiliates are entities which let people know regarding the rooms, and if one operates without the help of the typical affiliate Internet poker program or programs, odds are high that before long, they would be closing down their business due to very low customer population.
Ergo, the practice: they offer cash to every affiliate or affiliate Internet poker program, for each head sent to the online site.
The affiliate Internet poker program or party would ordinarily get the alternatives of a part of the rakes (MGR) or the lump sum for each gambler sent to the room, and the latter is known as CPR- and this you should know, the MGR means something from 25 percent to 40 percent, all depends on the site.
Most affiliates accomplish their goal of encouraging new guests by putting up websites. One course of method which has become popular: poker rooms giving bonus codes that both landbased and Net affiliates would use to monitor the people being sent to the gambling sites.Posted: June 8th, 2008 under Rooms.
