Is it legal to play poker online in Nebraska?

Posted under News on March 29th, 2009

Gaming always has hard core detractors in every state in the United States, Nebraska is no exception. Gaming, whether online or land based is always been popular. Back in the 1850s to 1930s, gambling in Nebraska was accepted either openly or in closed quarters.

But due to the laws that are imposed, gambling in Nebraska is limited to only keno, slot machines and licensed wagering on horse races. Land based casinos and gambling by telephone or over the internet is a violation of state and federal law in Nebraska. Most gamers drive across the Missouri River to Council Bluffs, Iowa, where casinos are legal and they are free to gamble.

Back in 2004, state senator, Ernie Chambers and U.S Representative Tom Osborne tried to push for legalized gambling in Nebraska, allowing casinos and slot machines to be built. But so far it had meet many opposition and casinos still remain illegal.

Online Poker Odds Calculator

Posted under Poker Stuff on March 8th, 2009

Playing online poker is a highly competitive mindsport, and players are constantly looking to get the edge over each other. Players can now track how other players play and know their winning odds in real time by using an online poker odds calculator.

It is essentially a software program designed to behave like an advisor, assisting players with monitoring game progress and suggesting moves to turn things in their favour. It does this by using statistical probability to let players make an informed decision to play better online poker.

It sounds like using a poker calculator might be considered cheating, but it is completely legal. All a poker calculator does is analyze the available information and keeps players informed about the status of the poker table, giving advice at each stages of the game. Players should review that advice objectively and can choose to either accept or deny it.

There is a multitude of large-scale poker tournaments where one can play for millions of dollars, and most feature the poker variation of Texas Hold'em. There are two ways to get into the tournaments that are aired on television.

Firstly, players can participate in satellites, and if you win a satellite or many satellites then you get an automatic place in these big television tournaments. The other way to get on a television tournament is to buy yourself in. You can pay the fee to get into the television tournament and then you're in the tournament.

Your local casino almost certainly runs poker tournaments. Often, poker is just an excuse to get you inside the casino, but there are also some excellent games.

Online poker rooms also run regular tournaments of their own, with some allowing entry for free, these are called freerolls. Up for grabs could be the chance to face off against poker stars in high-profile tournaments and the chance to become a celebrity themselves.
